Detailed Installation Instructions

Installation Requirements

Specfe is written in a mixture of tcl/tk and a small amount of compiled C code. It assumes that it is running on a unix-like operating system. It was developed on a Red-Hat 9 Linux system but should be usable on most Unixes. The configuration script assumes that various programs are installed in the locations for a standard RH9 system but most paths can be overridden by means of configuration script options. The following programs and packages are necessary and/or recommended for correct installation:

  1. A working spec installation. [Necessary for full functionality, not necessary if you only want to look at spec data files]

  2. A working tcl and tk installation. [Necessary]

  3. The 'tix' package for tcl/tk. [Necessary]

  4. The 'BLT' package for tcl/tk. [Necessary]

  5. The 'Expect' package for tcl/tk. [Necessary]

  6. The gnu C compiler and linker. [Necessary]

  7. The gnuzip program and the tar program. [Necessary]

  8. The docbook structured documentation system, including 'jade' and the DSSSL style-sheets. [Recommended]

  9. The 'ghostscript' postscript interpreter. [Necessary if N-up printing wanted]

  10. The 'psutils' package, including the 'psnup' command. [Necessary if N-up printing wanted]
